opportunity to manage and lead Pacific coverage of New Zealand’s award-winning

RNZ is New Zealand’s only non-commercial public multimedia organisation. We exist to serve the public interest by providing unique, impartial services and content to all New Zealanders and to the Pacific. RNZ Pacific is a key part of this mission. It broadcasts news to the Pacific, covers stories from the region, and covers news of Pacific people within Aotearoa New Zealand.
RNZ Pacific’s part of RNZ’s strategy involves the continuous expansion of our digital and audio audience, maintaining our cornerstone public media position and connecting with a growing and increasingly diverse audience.
In this role you will:
- Lead and manage the Pacific news reporters to cover the Pacific region and Pacific stories within New Zealand.
- Guide, support, and assist reporters in all aspects of their journalism for broadcast and on-line.
- Be a pillar in developing and driving our news storytelling across radio, social media and digital, and understand the strengths of each platform to engage audiences.
- Be a subject matter expert for advice on coverage of the Pacific across RNZ, for example, to news programmes or podcasts.
- Be a strong communicator who can build rapport and collaborate easily across teams.
- Manage and deliver audio, digital, web and social stories for bulletins and news programmes.
- Accomplish high-quality work within deadlines and according to RNZ editorial policy and standards.
- Report
to and work with the Pacific manager to ensure the RNZ Pacific broadcasts
and digital outlets are consistently strong. You will also work with RNZ
leaders to make sure Pacific stories are told well on RNZ.
Ōu Pūkenga - About You
- Strong experience as a journalist and news manager leading teams of reporters
- In-depth knowledge of the Pacific region and Pacific peoples within Aotearoa New Zealand.
- A passion for public media and especially experience in Pacific media
- Demonstrable leadership experience
- Experience in Web and Broadcast news
